Survival Gear

You might think that you are ready for a survival situation with food, water, shelter, and some survival gear tucked away in your bug out bag. You might be dead wrong. One part of survival preparation you should considered is surviving a human element. What would you do if someone tries to take your gear away from you? Have you prepared for this contingency? Are you really ready to protect yourself and gear or will you just hand it over? Did you bring any tactical survival gear to help you overcome an attack? Do you know what tactical survival amounts to?

These are important questions you must consider. You are wrong if you think that no one will try to take your gear. Humans when pushed to the edge will consider only themselves when hunger and fear drive them beyond normal conditions.

What is tactical survival? I think of it as gaining a short-term survival goal. For example, say you are attacked as the example above suggests and the assailants have only clubs and knives, a tactical plan for the victim is to use a concealed handgun if you have one. Training and carrying a concealed weapon should be part of your tactical survival plan so you can deal with this issue. Therefor a concealed weapon is part of your tactical survival gear.

Understand that we are not recommending this action, this is just an example of what one could do. You need proper training before introducing a weapon because it can cost you much more than your gear. Any hesitancy on by you with the weapon can easily cost your life. Also, consider that your adversaries are the ones in front of you but also behind and beside you. A smart group will have their backs covered by someone and if they are sophisticated someone with a rifle and scope. They will remove themselves from the line of fire to give their buddy time to kill you.

There are other items you can include in your tactical gear to help you deal with adversity. Lock picking tools could help you evade adversaries. Carry several different blades on your body so you can escape if you are captured such as a neck knife, belt buckle knife, boot knife, or a wallet knife. Pocket pepper spray could be very handy. Tactical pens which are effective weapons.

Camouflaged clothing and backpack help you blend into your surroundings can be  tactical survival gear. In an urban environment do not stand out by "looking" like you are prepared. A bug out bag in a tactical backpack camouflage pattern can be tactical out in the forest; but make you a target in urban environments. In the city better to use a daypack or a messenger bag.

When creating your survival strategy, you must think about many situations. Long-term strategic survival planning should be balanced well with some short-term, tactical survival planning. Add training to use the gear properly, and you will have a plan that will make sure you survive your next disaster.
