What is Pepper Spray?

The product we are featuring on this page is a ½ oz stream style pepper shot pepper spray featured in a blue injection molded case. Pepper Spray is sometimes called “mace”.  Pepper spray is made from the fruit of chilis and is a chemical agent that irritates the eyes causing tearing, pain and temporary blindness.  Mace is used by police for riot control, crowd control and to control unruly persons the police are trying to arrest.  The general population also carries capsicum spray, for self-defense and protection against animal attacks.  It may be used against dogs, bears and humans effectively.  Temporary blindness gives the person who uses the spray time to get away or in the case of police, time to apprehend the offender. Men want mace for bear attacks in aerosol canisters when they are in the woods hunting since it is very effective.

How is Pepper Spray classified by the law?

Legally Pepper Spray is called a less-than-lethal agent.  A person with breathing problem or asthma would be more prone to problems when dosed with mace. This product causes no lasting harm.

How is Mace produced?

Capsaicin is the active ingredient in pepper spray derived from the fruit of plants in the Capsicum genus which includes chilis.  The fruit is finely ground to extract oleoresin capsicum (OC).  The extraction is performed with ethanol. Then the ethanol is evaporated off.  The remaining substance is a wax like resin called oleoresin capsicum.  Our products use a finely ground capsicum which is more effective than a course ground capsicum.

It takes Propylene glycol to emulsify OC in water. Then this suspension is pressurized to make the aerosol we call pepper spray.  The product is available in ½ oz sizes up to a 4 oz stream pepper shot pepper spray.

How does Pepper Spray affect a person?

When an individual is sprayed with capsicum he will close his eyes, have difficulty breathing, have a runny nose, and cough some or a lot. A person may be affected possibly as long as 45 minutes.  The breathing and coughing may last 3 to 15 minutes under normal conditions.

What is the treatment of a person who has been sprayed with Mace?

Maalox, 2% lidocaine gel, baby shampoo, milk and water have been used.  Rubbing the skin or eyes just spreads the compound out over other areas of the body or into your eyes.  Use water to rinse affected areas first since it is usually the most easy to get of the items listed above.

Emergency personnel and Ambulance services like baby shampoo and carry it in their kits. Decontamination wipes are manufactured for cleaning the skin of a person who has received pepper spray.

What is the strongest Pepper Spray?

Generally the strongest pepper spray is 10% capsicum. Women like mace for dog attacks in aerosol canisters. This works well on human attackers also. Watch the labels for the percentage of capsicum and for the heat index. That is what we offer in this product one half oz with blue injection molded holster on this page.

How is Pepper Spray packaged?

Mace is often found in canisters that can be carried in the purse or pocket. It is presented in stream and fogger styles. They are small enough to be concealed in your palm and can be carried on key chains. Another method of packaging is in projectiles such as paint in paintball gun projectiles.  The one on this page is 1/2 oz capsicum produced by Pepper Shot and packaged in an injection molded case. Men want mace for animal attacks in aerosol canisters.
